Bust by W. D. Hopen, 1979
Located at the State Capitol Complex, West Wing of Building 1, facing North
Booker T. Washington lived in the Kanawha Valley from age nine to sixteen. This bust was originally made of granite (the granite base is original, created in 1963) and located in nearby Malden, but in 1979 the artist restored the bust and cast it in bronze, placing his original drawings and designs inside the object.
